In the Perkins family we believe that life is made up of the little everyday things. Things like enjoying a sensational cup of tea, Manny seeing his face in the mirror for the first time, or finding a bush turkey under the deck. Even though we delight in the little things it is often the big things that end up in letters and emails (Chris has a cold, I almost stepped on a snake - all the boring stuff).
These Joyful Jottings are going to change all of that. So we invite you, dear friends and loved ones, to share in some of our precious everyday moments as a family. Enjoy!

The Hundred Acre Woods

We went Bear Hunting! And not just any kind of bears, but drop bears, polar bears and brown bears. Drop bears drop at you out of the tree if you are disobedient, and the only way to get rid of them is to laugh merrily. Polar bears apparently fall on you from out of the sky (I think Dede was actually meaning drop bears, but hey! The more bears the merrier!) and brown bears EAT people (unless the electrician comes and ties them to tree stumps and electrocutes them... a primitive version of The Chair perhaps?).

Of course, my concern was that poor Winnie would be lumped in with all the vicious types so I asked what we were to do if we should come across Winnie The Pooh while we were out bear hunting? How would we know if it was him? I was informed in a most condescending tone that Winnie The Pooh is yellow, so of course we would know him. Silly me!

So this is a photo of Manny on his first Bush Walk - ahem, I mean Bear Hunt. And my word, doesn't he look like his handsome Daddy?

Modern Technology!

Hello All!

For those who are wondering we still have no little addition up here in Rockhampton :-) As the Bible says, 'There is a time to be born...' :-)

I couldn't resist sharing this picture with you all. Manny has been quite unsettled the last week and I think he is missing his daddy. Soooo one night we got Skype working and introduced our baby to some amazing technology! I wish I'd had his reaction on film when he saw Chris, lol. He started laughing and jumping and waving his arms around like the Lost In Space robot (don't ever tell him I said that!). Manny is definitely going to be a Daddy's Boy.

Fun with friends and a week of firsts!

Manny with two sweet friends
This week we have been up in Rockhampton waiting for a dear, stubborn ;-P friend to give birth :-D We are SO SO excited to meet this new little one and we really can't wait! So to while away the time (and keep our household, composed of a grade one child, two preschoolers, one toddler, an infant and one in-the-oven, busy) we have been enjoying some great outdoor fun. There are some definite pluses to being in a smaller city: you can go for real walks, you can stroll to the shops, you can take the kids to the park, etc, etc.
Here are some photos from our little "vacation":

My sweet son playing in the kitchen while I cook dinner. He was actually playing with the tin! a big first :-)
Taken while I was cooking (again, teehee). Poor Manny is teething so he was taking his frustrations out on his namesake, Manny the Rabbit. It's just slightly alarming when someone yells out, "Manny fell in the lizard cage!" (yes, that actually happened).

Manny went to the zoo for the first time! The only animal that really got his attention was the giant emu. They had a little conversation over the fence before I whisked him away to safety!

Manny's first ride on a swing! This one was designed like a hammock so he was able to lay on it while I pushed him :-) He had a blast!

Snuggling with Charlotte at the park

We went to Manny's first sports event - the Lighthouse Lions playing basketball. We yelled ourselves hoarse cheering for a certain little redhead... Manny of course slept through the whole thing.

Manny had his first BBQ at the park! Notice the super cute outfit picked up at a morning at the op-shops!

We've been out for some long walks when the other littlies have their nap time. On this particularly sunny day I borrowed Jimmy's hat. How cute is this kid? :-D
Manny and Rachel were both wide awake during nap time so I took them for a long, long walk in the double stroller. I received many compliments on my two beautiful children, both sitting there sucking their thumbs together. I could've gone through the whole big story about who each child belonged to but I thought, hey, why complicate matters!
Of course, Chris is still working hard in Sydney and we miss him sooooo much! Last night Manny wouldn't settle to sleep until I had Chris pray with him and wish him good night via telephone. Within five minutes the little guy was asleep. So if you see Chris, tell him we love him! <3
